Inspiring Future Innovators.

Join one of our after school coding clubs in Bromley and help your child discover the joy of programming through Scratch and creative digital projects.

Our exciting after school coding clubs are dedicated to inspire children to explore the world of technology and computer science. Join us to nurture inquisitive minds and develop a passion for computer programming.

Our after school coding clubs in Bromley introduce children to the world of technology and problem-solving through hands-on activities that form part of the broader STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) curriculum — giving them a head start in one of the most in-demand skill areas of the future.

At Young Explorers HQ after school coding club, children will turn their imagination into reality. We use Scratch, a fun and easy-to-learn coding platform, children will dive into the world of programming by creating their very own art, games, and animations. Whether it’s building a colourful character or designing an epic game, children get hands-on experience in bringing their ideas to life.

What Children Will Learn

Through Scratch, children will develop essential programming skills, including:

  • Basic coding concepts: They’ll learn how to use code blocks to create sequences, loops, and conditions—just like real programmers!
  • Problem-solving & logic: Children will think critically as they tackle challenges, debug their projects, and find creative solutions to make their animations and games work smoothly.
  • Design & creativity: Coding isn’t just about tech—it’s also an art form! Children will explore storytelling, character design, and game mechanics while expressing their creativity.

Why Scratch?

The Scratch coding platform used for children’s coding projects in Young Explorers HQ Coding Club in Bromley.

Scratch is our platform of choice because it’s uniquely suited to young learners who are new to coding. Here’s why it stands out:

  • Accessible and Intuitive: Scratch’s colourful, drag-and-drop interface makes coding visually intuitive, breaking down complex concepts into manageable, easy-to-understand blocks. This approach enables even beginners to grasp fundamental coding ideas without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Builds Strong Foundations: Scratch helps kids develop essential coding concepts, such as sequencing, loops, and conditionals, laying a solid foundation that prepares them for more advanced programming languages like Python as they grow.
  • Fosters Creativity and Exploration: By allowing children to bring their ideas to life—whether through animated stories, interactive games, or creative art—Scratch empowers them to focus on the fun and imaginative aspects of coding. They learn problem-solving and logical thinking while creating projects that feel like play.
  • Encourages Collaborative Learning: Scratch’s online community offers a platform for kids to share their projects, learn from others, and gain inspiration, promoting teamwork and a sense of accomplishment.
>> Scratch, developed by the Scratch Foundation at MIT, was designed to make coding accessible and enjoyable for young learners. Widely recognised for its ease of use and engaging features, Scratch enables children to explore creative coding without needing prior experience. Through its simple, intuitive tools, they can build anything from animations to interactive games, bringing ideas to life in a hands-on, imaginative way.

>> We’re thrilled to use Scratch to inspire the next generation of thinkers, creators, and innovators at our after school coding clubs.

>> Overall, Scratch provides a balance of simplicity and power, making coding both accessible and exciting for young minds. By introducing children to programming in a way that feels like play, Scratch encourages a love for technology and learning that can last a lifetime.

Expanding Creativity with BBC Micro:bit

In addition to Scratch, we also introduce children to the BBC Micro:bit—a pocket-sized, programmable computer designed to make learning physical computing and digital creativity fun and interactive.

  • Micro:bit complements Scratch perfectly by adding a hands-on, tangible element to coding, encouraging experimentation, engineering thinking, and problem-solving in an exciting new dimension.
  • With just a few lines of code, children can bring their ideas to life by programming lights, sensors, buttons, and movement.
  • Micro:bit helps children understand how software interacts with hardware in the real world. It complements Scratch perfectly by adding a hands-on, tangible element to coding, encouraging experimentation, engineering thinking, and problem-solving in an exciting new dimension.
